Student Loans

Federal Stafford Loans (students)

  • The subsidized loan is a need-based loan. Interest is paid by the government while you are in school and during the six months following graduation.
  • With an unsubsidized Stafford loan, interest is paid by the borrower, but it may be deferred until graduation, or paid while you are still in school.
  • The standard repayment schedule includes a maximum repayment period of ten years, with a minimum monthly payment of $50. Loan repayment begins six months after you graduate, drop below half-time enrollment or withdraw from school.

Federal Plus Loans (parents)

  • This loan is not based on need. All credit-worthy parents are eligible.
  • Simple interest loan.
  • Interest may be tax-deductible.
  • Repayment begins within 60 days after the loan is fully disbursed. The minimum monthly payment is $50.

All Student Loan rates are determined by the government.

College Scholarships

High School seniors that are members of First Jersey Credit Union are eligible for a $1,000 Scholarship to the college of their choice. Applications can be picked up in the fall at either branch or mailed at the student's request. Three winners will be chosen and notified in the spring. All applications are also submitted to the NJ Credit Union League for a statewide competition for an additional $1,000 scholarship. All applications are reviewed by the state, and the top scoring members win.
