FJCU In The Community

At First Jersey Credit Union, we pride ourselves on the fact that we participate and give back to the communities in which we serve.  Here is a list of the on-going activities and organizations we participate in.

Financial Literacy Program – First Jersey employees joined forces with the NJ Credit Union League to create NJ’s first-ever Financial Reality Fair, which brought students a realistic portrayal of living a successful financial life. Employees volunteer their time at these unique and engaging fairs, offered to High Schools throughout NJ. Participating students identify their career choices and are given typical starting salaries for those roles. Credit Union volunteers help students budget their monthly salary while paying for basics such as housing, utilities, transportation, clothing and food – while avoiding temptations and learning how to save and invest. The fairs are a valuable opportunity for students to experience some of the financial challenges they will face when they start life on their own.

Junior Olympics – Every Spring, the Township of Wayne holds their annual Junior Olympics event. First Jersey is proud to sponsor this event by donating t-shirts to all participants. Employees volunteer their time at the event and cheer the children on!

March of Dimes - The March of Dimes’ mission is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Employees at First Jersey support this mission by fundraising and walking at the Annual March For Babies event held at Wayne Hills High School. First Jersey Credit Union’s team has over a dozen walkers including staff and family members. Employees also contribute by handing out water at the Credit Union’s checkpoint sponsor station. The FJCU team raises thousands of dollars annually, which assists the March of Dimes in realizing its goal of making every birth(day) a healthy – and happy one!

Mount St Joseph’s Children’s Center – The Mount St. Joseph Children's Center is dedicated to its longtime mission of working with young boys with special needs. The Center, located in Totowa, serves as many as 37 boys, ages 6 through 15, in a residential program, with an on-site special education school. During the holiday season, the staff at First Jersey donates hundreds of new toys and educational games for these children, to be part of their holiday celebration.

Scholarship Program - In an effort to help further the education of local high school students, First Jersey Credit Union participates in a statewide college scholarship program, offered through the NJ Credit Union League. High School seniors in Bergen, Passaic, Essex, Hudson and Union Counties are eligible to apply for this $1,000 scholarship.

In addition, our employees have donated to food banks and Toys for Tots drives, sent supplies to troops overseas, and have participated in many local community events.
